White Claw Surge 8% ABV Hard Seltzer Now in Stores

— Not to be outdone by the likes of Truly Extra Hard Seltzer and Bud Light Platinum Seltzer, the makers of White Claw, Mark Anthony Brands, has introduced a higher ABV seltzer of their own and it’s arriving just in time for summer.

White Claw Surge is a new 8% alcohol by volume hard seltzer brought to you from industry leader, White Claw. It is already on shelves in several markets and will continue to roll out nationwide in the coming weeks.

Consumers wanting to try the new Surge Hard Seltzer will be greeted by two flavor options: Blood Orange and Cranberry. Both flavors will be available in larger 16 ounce cans and sold individually. The suggested retail price is $2.99 per can.

No multi-packs are planned for White Claw Surge at this time. However, that my change depending on the success of the initial rollout as well as consumer demand for new flavors.

Flavor Choices Raise Questions

White Claw competitor, Bud Light Seltzer, already has a Blood Orange flavor in their 8% ABV Platinum Seltzer lineup. It’s interesting to see a market innovator like White Claw introduce an identical flavor profile. Especially in an industry that’s typically known for unique flavors in an attempt to stand out in a crowded field.

White Claw Surge’s other 8% competitor, Truly Extra, is also available in two flavors: Black Raspberry and Peach Mango. So the introduction of a White Claw Surge Cranberry flavor is unique in the 8% space, at least for now.

One might speculate that White Claw is trying to appeal to cocktail drinkers who fancy cranberry juice in their mixed drinks. Or perhaps see cranberry as more of a versatile or non-summer flavor. Maybe they’ve introduced the flavor for those with a more conservative palate that don’t like the tropical fruit and berry flavors that currently dominate the market?

New Flavors, Sizes, and Variety Pack Coming Soon

White Claw has announced that their 8% ABV Surge Hard Seltzer will soon be available in a new variety 12-pack of 12 oz. slim cans including the addition of 2 popular flavors: Blackberry and Natural Lime. More to follow.
