CACTI is Back, Baby!

Travis Scott Cacti 2.0Once a brand has been discontinued, that’s usually it. There are many famous examples of brands coming back from the brink but very few rise from the dead. Well, here’s one for the history books. Ten-time Grammy-nominated rapper and singer Travis Scott is relaunching his distilled-agave-based seltzer brand and renaming it Cacti Hard Seltzer 2.0.

Secret Comeback

Up until this week, the comeback was just rumors. First, Travis Scott sipped the rebranded version of his spiked seltzer courtside at a Knicks game. The subtle move may have gone unnoticed, but an out-of-bounds ball hit Travis’s can, producing a geyser of Cacti 2.0.  Sports broadcasters caught footage of the drink and its explosive contents, and the video went viral. Shortly after, in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show host asked Travis Scott about the incident, and the rapper teased, “I got this drink called Cacti, and it’s amazing.”

How much more confirmation do we need? How about an entire stadium?

This week, Travis Scott and the Cacti Spiked Seltzer team purchased naming rights for the spring home of the Houston Astros. The West Palm Beach training camp is now CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches.

The Discontinuation of Cacti Agave Spiked Seltzer

Cacti launched in March of 2021. Less than a year later, in December of 2021, Anheuser-Busch discontinued Cacti after a deadly crowd crush at one of  Travis Scotts’ concerts. An Anheuser-Busch spokesperson made the announcement to CNN Business, stating, “After careful evaluation, we have decided to stop all production and brand development of CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer. We believe brand fans will understand and respect this decision.”

Anheuser-Busch was not the only brand that distanced itself from the rapper after the tragedy and the ensuing media storm, Nike also delayed the release of Air Max 1 X Cactus Jack. They did this “out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival.”

After nearly three years off the market, the rapper plans to relaunch his spiked seltzer without Anheuser-Busch’s backing.

Everything We Know

CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer is coming back with a complete makeover. First, the drinks are now labeled as a “hard seltzer.” The cans have a colorful redesign, and what is in the cans is completely different as well.

According to a February 8th Press Release, Cacti Hard Seltzer 2.0 has a 5% ABV, 100 Calories, and 1 gram of sugar. This is a distinct change from the original spiked seltzers which came in at 7% ABV and 150 calories. These drinks come in four new flavors, Berry Splash, Tropical Twist, Paradise Slice, and Citrus Haze. The brand describes Berry Splash as a strawberry punch. Tropical Twist is a pineapple and mango punch. Citrus Haze is a lemon-lime punch, and Paradise Slice is described as a “tropical fruit punch.”

When is the official launch date? We still don’t know. It seems that Travis Scott is giving us crumbs of information one at a time. What we do know is that the CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches will open with a special ribbon-cutting by Travis Scott on February 28th.
