Captain Morgan Sliced, a Malt-Based RTD
Captain Morgan Sliced Ready-to-Drink Cocktails
Well, here’s something different. Captain Morgan, a brand known for its spiced rum and pirate mascot, just released a line of malt-based ready-to-drink cocktails. This leads us to the question (in the voice of Captain Jack Sparrow)… “But why is the rum gone?”
That said, we’re excited about these cocktail-inspired drinks, even if their branding may cause some confusion. The Captain Morgan Spiked Variety Pack with four full-flavor malt-based flavors is available now nationwide.
“We didn’t just want to introduce another new canned drink – we wanted to slice through the ordinary with an offering that compliments the adventurous spirit of our consumers,” says Laura Merritt, CMO of Diageo Beer Company. “Captain Morgan has always been known and loved for its bold flavor, and we’re excited to shake up the category and introduce Captain Morgan Sliced to the world.”
Everything We Know
Captain Morgan Sliced comes in four malt-based flavors. The flavors are Pineapple Daiquiri Style Beverage, Strawberry Margarita Style Beverage, Passionfruit Hurricane Style Beverage, and Mango Mai Tai Style Beverage. According to a February 22nd Press Release, the Pineapple Daiquiri Style Beverage is an “island classic,” combining lime and pineapple. While the Strawberry Margarita Style Beverage “fuses” lime and strawberry. Passionfruit Hurricane Style Beverage is a “twist on the classic New Orleans cocktail” with passionfruit, lemon, and orange. Last but not least, Mango Mai Tai Style Beverage combines “citrus and pineapple with a ripe sweet mango flavor.”
These flavored malt beverages (FMB) have an alcohol content of 5.8%. This comes in slightly higher than other popular FMBs at a 5% ABV like Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Smirnoff, and Twisted Tea. The Captain Morgan Variety Pack is available now in flavor-variety 12-packs. The flavors come in at about 19.5 grams of carbohydrates. That’s comparable to their bar-made counterparts (save for the pineapple daiquiri which would contain two to three times as many carbs at a bar). Coming in slightly lower than their bar-made counterparts, however, these malt-based drinks contain 186 calories per 12 oz serving.
“Whether you’re hanging poolside or just chilling at home with friends 21+, Captain Morgan Sliced invites everyone to live in the now, cut out the complications, and find delicious adventure wherever your crew takes you.”
