Topo Chico Spirited is Available Now
Beverage trends come in waves. We see it every season. Sometimes it’s margarita flavors; sometimes, it’s a sudden rush of tequila RTDs (ready-to-drink cocktails) hitting the market all at once. The newest wave is popular beverage brands coming out with lines of real-spirit RTDs. However, this time, it’s not a wave. It is a flood. We have seen new spirit innovations from top hard seltzer brands White Claw Vodka + Soda, Truly Vodka Sodas, and High Noon Tequila Seltzers. We’ve also seen popular non-alcoholic brands releasing real-spirit drinks, like SunnyD Vodka Seltzer and Vita Coco with Captain Morgan. The Coca-Cola Company has been riding this wave like a pro surfer, releasing both Fresca Mixed and Coca-Cola and Jack Daniel’s within the last six months. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Topo Chico, Coca-Cola’s first stateside venture into the alcoholic industry, just released a new line of real-spirit drinks.
Topo Chico Spirited hit shelves today in select states. The drinks are available now in three brand new “cocktail-inspired” flavors.
“Topo Chico Spirited is a bar-quality cocktail inspired by bartenders across America whose mixer of choice is already Topo Chico Mineral Water,” Joy Ghosh, vice president of marketing for above premium flavor at Molson Coors Beverage Company, said in an April 11th press release. “We’re making it easy for people to entertain their friends on their backyard patios with a great tasting canned cocktail crafted with filtered sparkling water, real tequila blanco or distilled vodka that’s ready to drink so needs minimal effort.”
The Cocktail Flavors
Topo Chico Spirited is now available in three flavors. First, Topo Chico Spirited offers Tequila & Lime. Topo Chico drew inspiration from the Texas cocktail Ranch Water for this cocktail. The brand states that Ranch Water is “traditionally made using Topo Chico Mineral Water.” Topo Chico Spirited makes the Tequila & Lime cocktail with Tequila Blanco and real lime juice, and the cocktail comes in at only 130 calories. The second offering from the Topo Chico Spirited line is Tequila & Grapefruit. The most popular cocktail in Mexico, the Paloma, inspired this canned cocktail. According to the press release, this cocktail tastes like “fresh squeezed grapefruit with a hint of sweetness.” Similar to Tequila & Lime, the brand makes the Tequila & Grapefruit canned cocktail with Tequila Blanco and real fruit juice. The calories are a little higher, however, coming in at 150 calories per 12 oz can.
The last offering in the Topo Chico Spirited line is Vodka & Lemon. Topo Chico takes inspiration from the Chilton, making this canned cocktail with real vodka, lemon juice, sparkling water, and “a pinch of salt.” The Vodka & Lemon has only 130 calories. All three of these drinks have an alcoholic content of 5.9% ABV (alcohol by volume). This falls almost exactly between Fresca Mixed, which has an ABV of 5%, and Coca-Cola and Jack Daniel’s, which has an ABV of 7%.
