Sparkling Ice Spiked Hard Seltzer Review: Mango Mojito
Sparkling Ice Spiked Mango Mojito is Magic in a Can
There are many myths and stories surrounding the mojito. Like most cocktails, multiple origin stories have cropped up over the years. One of such is that when privateer Sir Francis Drake attempted to sack Cuba for its gold, he instead needed help from the locals to combat scurvy for his crew. The legend goes that the ingredients of the Mojito were assembled to combat that scurvy. This is not the only origin story, but all of the tales tend to agree that the birthplace of this cocktail was Cuba. The name of the drink stems from the word “mojo”, which is a creole word with African roots meaning “magic” or “a magic spell or charm”. Magical or not, the drink was rumored to be Ernest Hemingway’s favorite, though whether that is true or not is a matter of continued debate.
The myths and magic around the mojito are strong, but one thing about the cocktail is certain: this sweet and minty drink is popular! When we learned that Sparkling Ice Spiked was coming out with a Mango Mojito hard seltzer, we had to try it out four ourselves!
As soon as we crack open a can of Sparkling Ice Spiked Mango Mojito, the tropical aroma transports us to a holiday on the beach. We pour the hard seltzer over ice, noticing the pale yellow, mango color of the liquid. It really adds to the cocktail feel of the drink! Bubbles funnel up slowly, indicating that the carbonation is medium for this hard seltzer. As we take our first sip, mango delights over our tastebuds. It’s a thirst-quenching flavor, and directly after that mango, we can taste the mint. Between the mango, mint, and splash of lime, the combination of flavors simply taste tropical. Each sip transports you to a word of tropical magic.
Big Flavor, Small Impact
Sparkling Ice Spiked makes their Mango Mojito with an impressive combination of carbonated water, alcohol from cane sugar, natural flavors, setvia, ester gum, gum arabic, citric acid, beta carotene, tripotassium citrate, and ascorbic acid. This offering has less than 100 calories in the can and no sugar or artificial sweeteners. With only two carbs, this drink is a perfect choice for the beach. While the refreshing taste will spur you to keep drinking, be aware that the alcohol content is slightly on the higher side. At a 6% alcohol by volume, this drink comes in at a high average for hard seltzers.
