High Noon Hard Seltzer Review: Grapefruit
High Noon Vodka & Soda Grapefruit Refreshes
Grapefruit has been a common alcohol mixer since the 1940s, but as far as fruits go, grapefruit has had a long and strange history. The fruit isn’t naturally occurring; instead, it is thought to have come about by accident when two citrus trees cross-pollinated in Barbados. The East India Company brought the seeds from a pomelo tree to the island in the 17th century, and the seeds intermingled with the local orange plant. The grapefruit’s first name came in 1750 from a Welsh naturalist who called it: The Forbidden Fruit. It wasn’t until two centuries later that the grapefruit was brough the the United States of America, and the grapefruit wasn’t popular for another sixty years. But, since the 1940s, grapefruit is as common on the breakfast table as it is in cocktails. High Noon Vodka & Soda Grapefruit mixes fresh fruit juice from the forbidden fruit and creates a fantastic canned cocktail.
Smells Like Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit
It’s really no mystery why grapefruit makes such a great mixer. Grapefruit has a tangy, sour, and sweet taste that tends to neutralize the faint yet astringent pucker of vodka. Thus, we had high expectations for High Noon Vodka & Soda Grapefruit before trying it, and the hard seltzer meets our hopes. As soon as we crack open the can, the fresh, tangy aroma of pink grapefruit fills the air. It’s a strong and alluring scent. As we pour the liquid into a tall glass, the vodka soda comes out clear, splashing over the ice. The carbonation is excellent, bubbling up to the top and popping on the surface.
Very Refreshing
The hard seltzer gives a great presentation, but in the end, that doesn’t matter if the taste doesn’t match. Thankfully, High Noon Vodka & Soda Grapefruit tastes as good as it looks. As soon as we take our first sip of the seltzer, we find a fresh, tangy, and refreshing flavor. It’s delicious yet not too strong on the grapefruit. However, the aftertaste has a sweet and sour bite just like the real thing. Did we mention that this drink is refreshing? It tastes like fresh squeezed grapefruit with very little boozy flavor.
