Truly Announces Two New Flavors

[Updated on 2/28/22 to include statement from Truly Hard Seltzer.]

Valentines Day may be over, but Truly Hard Seltzer is showing how much they love us. In a recent Instagram post, Truly announced that they are releasing two new flavors in their popular 8% alcohol by volume (ABV) brand Truly Extra.

What are these new flavors, you ask?

Drum roll, please…

Pineapple Orange Punch and Berry Blast!

Pineapple Orange Punch is available now. Berry Blast will be hitting the shelves March 1st, 2022.

What Makes 8% ABV a High Alcohol by Volume Hard Seltzer?

The majority of hard seltzers have an alcohol by volume ranging from 4% to 6%.  Truly and White Claw primarily fall at a standard 5% for their other flavors. To put that into perspective, the majority of beers range from a 4% to a 7%. And, most wines range from 8% to 14% ABV. Thus, Truly Extra would rank about with a high alcohol beer and low alcohol wine. As well as having a higher alcohol content, Truly Extra only comes in 16 oz cans instead of the 12 ounce slim can. As a standard pour of a glass of wine is about 5 ounces, one can of Truly Extra is approximately equivalent to three glasses of wine.

But What About the Previous Truly Extra Flavors?

There might be a major catch to this good news: all signs point to the fact that Pineapple Orange Punch and Berry Blast are replacing Black Raspberry and Peach Mango. This information is unconfirmed, so take this with a grain of salt (and a shot of Tequila). It was only March of last year when Truly Extra announced their original higher alcohol brand with two flavors, Black Raspberry and Peach Mango. However, the hard seltzer market is notorious for changing quickly. There haven’t been any announcements yet, but Truly Extra Black Raspberry and Peach Mango are out of stock in some major metropolis areas through online retailers. Additionally, Truly no longer lists Black Raspberry and Peach Mango as “available products” on their website. When we reached out to Truly on this issue, we were unable to get a response.

Truly ran into several financial issues last year from supply chain problems and over-purchasing. Boston Beer, Truly’s parent company, released their quarter financial results with a promise that their “innovation pipeline continues to ensure we can meet consumer taste trends as they evolve.” Perhaps the company evolved past Black Raspberry and Peach Mango.

In Truly We Trust

Truly has been a rising star in the hard seltzer industry. They have held the number two spot in the market for a couple of years now. White Claw has held the number one spot. Nevertheless, Truly’s innovative approach of continuously coming out with new flavors is giving White Claw real competition. Just this month, Truly tied with White Claw in Newsweek’s “Most Trusted Consumer Product Brands of 2022”. This award comes after Newsweek and BrandSpark’s analysis of over 15,000 shoppers.

Last year, Truly ran a successful campaign with Grammy Winner Dua Lipa, declaring that “no one is just one flavor”. The brand doubled down on this motto in a February 2022 press release, “Truly believes no one is just one flavor, which is why it is available in 31 total flavors: 12 delicious original flavors, plus five flavors of Truly Lemonade, four flavors of Truly Iced Tea, four flavors of Truly Punch, two flavors of Truly Extra and now four flavors of Truly Margarita.”

Update 2/28/22: In a statement to Seltzer Nation, Truly confirmed that Pineapple Orange Punch and Berry Blast have replaced Black Raspberry and Peach Mango.
